Welcome All Fibromites!

Welcome everyone! This was incredibly easy. Now we few "fibromites" have a home of our own! I will attempt to post something uplifting every week through the summer. After I get through planning a health fair at my church for July and having a shower for my niece who's getting married in June AND some well earned vacation time, perhaps I will attempt to post something daily. I hope everyone was feeling well enough to get outside in the sunshine today. It was beautiful here in Virginia and in the 70's!
I think it would be a good idea since we are such a global communnity to tell everyone where on this earth we are from! I noticed on the thread where we got our start that some of you allready have. Also, what kind of work we do. That always helps me to picture someone in my mind. But like everything else on the web we can get as detailed as we want, or not! It's entirely up to you how much of yourself you want to "put out there". We do have to be careful. Also, I would urge everyone to please respect other "fibromites'" opinions. We all form our opinions based on our individual experiences, our personal environments, and especially with us our opinions can change from day to day or even hour to hour! Also please try to keep it basically "clean". I don't think anyone minds if we occasionally slip ( that, too, depends on our frame of mind at the time!). But continued "colorful" language should be avoided.
Thanks to everyone whose interest has made our little group possible. Come back as often as you wish, & tell your friends....especially the ones who don't understand fibromyalgia!

Gental Hugs!
Barbara

  1. Hi all!
I will be lucky to get out of bed in the morning. Just came in after working outside in my flowers for about an hour. Tomorrow we have to clean off the deck, clean the lawn furniture, put out my summer "stuff" in the flowers beds (little statues, signs, etc.) Oh, well. I work a little then "supervise" a little :-). Whatever works, right?
    Have a great weekend!
    Gentle Hugs!

  2. Hi Barb

How's the aches and pains today? Bet you're suffering a bit. I was starting to feel slightly better today, so thought I would do a little vaccuming, nearly fell over the dog, so stepped back, tripped over vaccum cleaner and badly twisted my back :(

Been on sofa ever since, in total agony, but having to get up to do little things that HAVE to be done, then gently ease myself back on sofa, trying not to let the pain get the better of me. Only positive aspect is no more housework for a while (not sure if thats positive when nobody else seems able to fathom out how to use a duster/vaccum cleaner/washing machine etc!!!)

Hope your day has been much better than mine!

    Cotton wool hugs xx

  3. I don't have that problem. When I vacuum Gabe wants out, he doesn't like the noise. If Gregg is vacuuming, I'm usually in the recliner (w/ a flare) and Gabe gets on my lap!!! Try balancing a 95 pound Labrador on your lap! It's a good thing he plops his butt on the arm of the chair or I wouldn't be able to breathe! The big wuss! Actually I didn't feel too bad this AM. Went to the greenhouse with Gregg and got flowers to make my hanging baskets, and some herbs to put in a huge pot on the deck. I'll do that next week.
Tomorrow right after church I leave for a Parish Nurse Retreat at a state Park lodge in West Virginia. It's only about 2.5 hours from here. I'll be back Tuesday evening. I'm taking my laptop, but I'm not sure if they have wi-fii hookup or not. So if you don't hear from me for three days that's why!
hope you feel better soon. Those vacuums are hazardous to your health! ;->

  4. Hi Barb! Thanks for this site and for all of your support and encouragement. I live in WI. and the past couple of days have been beautiful! I have found that the way I feel is very much related to the weather. I have felt good the past couple of days. On good days like these I wonder if there really is anything wrong with me and then I have a bad day and feel the frustration all over again. I am learning to balance my good days and to go gentle on myself on the bad days. I am also learning what helps in managing my pain and what doesn't. The heating pad is quickly becomming my best friend. At the end of each day I have been lying on it anf it helps to ease the pain when I go to bed. I have started walking and doing yoga. On the days that I actually do these things I feel better, and have more energy; but some days the fatigue and pain are so great that I can't get moving. We are getting ready to put in our garden. For Arbor Day my 5 yr. old and I planted a small tree in our yard. She had so much fun digging the hole and adding the water. I hope the tree will survive all her TLC! I was glad that I felt good enough to do that with her.
Poor Linda. It sounds like something that would happen to me,but our dog, Joey(120lb. huskey/shepard), is like your dog and runs away from the vacuum. I hope Linda feels better.
    Have fun on your retreat.

  5. I'm at a Parish Nurse Retreat in WVA right, home tomorrow. I just had a full body massage and I feel like a cooked noodle! Haven't been this relaxed in months! Helped the fibro too! I'm going to have to start doing this more often. Back to the real world on Tuesday! I hops everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather.
    Gentle Hugs!

  7. Hello!
I'm BAAAAACK!!! Just like a bad penny, I show up just about anywhere!
The massage therapist that worked on me at the retreat was very knowledgeable about fibromyalgia. She was very "easy around the tender points". She also told me that she had worked on two other women with fibro and both had said that they had just heard that eating a gluten free diet helps fibro.I haven't had time to research it yet, but from what I remember, gluten is a substance in wheat products that hold them together. If you have ever made bread think of the elasticity of the dough when you are kneading it. The disease that it causes used to be called Celiac Spru or Celiac Disease. The symptoms of Gluten sensitivity (what it's called now) are mostly gastrointestinal I think and in a VERY MAJOR way. If you ever listen to CNN and watch Heidi Collins (she's usually on in the middle of the day), you will hear her talk about it every now and then. She has it and she talks about a national society that embraces Celiac Disease. It is apparently genetic, because I remember a few months back she and her husband adopted a child and I THINK she said it was because she didn't want to take the chance of passing it on to a child. Please don't take this info "to the bank", because like I said, I haven't researched it yet. But it's "food for thought"! Sorry, just couldn't help myself!

  8. Is there anything you know of that you can take at night before bed so that you wake up not stiff? I have such a hard time getting moving. It takes a couple of hours to "warm up". There is no such thing as "hurrying to get ready" any more.

  9. caleb;
Sorry it took so long to respond. I usually try a hot shower to get loosened up. Also, good planning eliminates some, not all, of the hurry up and get ready problem. Say,on Saturday night, I decide what I'm going to wear to church the next AM, even down to shoes, jewely, unmentionables, etc. That really helps me because it eliminates the quick decision making the enxt AM. I even put out (what I can) what I'm going to have for breakfast, fix the coffeemaker so that all I have to sdo is turn it on. It took me a long time to get that organized, but it really does help!
